Update: Jason’s Vineyard owner identified as fatal crash victim

Route 58 crash

Jason Damianos, owner of Jason’s Vineyard in Jamesport, has been identified as the victim in Friday morning’s fatal car crash in Riverhead, according to a police press release.

Mr. Damianos, 49, of Mattituck was driving a 2005 Ford F-150 pickup truck around 6 a.m. on Route 58 near Harrison Avenue when it crashed into a 2007 Jeep Cherokee driven by 19-year-old Sound Beach resident Savanna Lake, Riverhead police said.

“It was later determined that [Mr. Damianos] pulled in front of the Jeep Cherokee while making a left hand turn onto Harrison Avenue,” the release states.

Mr. Damianos was pronounced dead at Peconic Bay Medical Center, police said. The driver of the other vehicle was treated at the hospital for her injuries, officials said. The extent of her injuries wasn’t disclosed.

As of noon Friday, officials confirmed the eastbound lanes on Route 58 between Osborn and Harrison avenues remained closed.

The Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corp. and Riverhead Fire Department also responded to the scene.

No other details were immediately available.

The Damianos family owns Pindar Vineyards in Peconic and Duck Walk Vineyards located on both the north and south forks.
