If you heard a happy yell Sunday afternoon, that was me. It finally reached 60 degrees. For a minute it seemed like this winter wasn’t ever going to end. Now May is coming, and sometime during the second week I’ll make the trip to Oneonta one last time until August. I don’t mind it really — it’s nice to spend some alone time with my baby girl and catch up. (more…)

Happy Easter and Passover to all the friends and neighbors who are reading this column. I hope whatever you celebrate you celebrate with love, family and friends. It’s April so I’m hoping that it’s going to start getting a little bit warmer. This winter has been rough. When I woke up to snow Saturday and then it kept snowing all day, I have to admit, it kind of bummed me out. I was so glad to see blue sky and sunshine on Sunday, even if it was only 40 degrees. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed that was the last, at least until next December. (more…)

Hello, friends and neighbors. Welcome to spring. Finally! I’m so excited to be over that February madness. It was just too cold and snowy this year. I don’t think I’d mind it around Christmas because it’s supposed to snow then — at least that’s what all the songs and movies say. Anyway, it’s time to dust off the body and get out and move. Just make sure you wear bright reflective clothing if you’re going to walk or run on our area roads. It’s very hard to see people who are wearing dark-colored clothing.  (more…)

Well, friends and neighbors, it’s finally March. Although February is the shortest month, I find it to be the longest in terms of cold weather. The only consolation is that spring is just 15 days away! Let’s hope that it actually starts on or near March 20 and that we warm up soon.

Please join the Flanders, Riverside and Northampton Community Association on Sunday, March 22, at its inaugural FRNCA 5K Scholarship Run/Walk at Hampton Hills Golf and Country Club. Preregistration is $20 per person; $30 on race day. Check-in and registration will be held between 8 and 9:30 a.m.; race begins at 10 a.m. All proceeds will go toward a scholarship to be awarded to a graduating senior or college student residing in one of the three hamlets. To support this great program, get some exercise and meet some new people, visit frnca.org to download an application. Mail to P.O. Box 602, Flanders, NY 11901. You can also sign up at itsyourrace.com.

Nicole Lennon left for U.S. Coast Guard boot camp in Cape May, N.J., Feb. 10 after being delayed a week due to bad weather. She will be away for eight weeks and is scheduled to graduate April 3. Her dad, her sister, Kim, and all her family and friends wish her the best of luck. They are all very proud of her. Semper Paratus!

Happy birthday to Theresa Flynn, who celebrates March 7, from your daughter, Victoria. Hope you have a great day.

Happy birthday to Kevin Zebroski on March 8; Brenda Flood Childress, March 9; Maryann Matlak, March 11; Andrea Conforti, March 12; Tracey Randel, Dan Watts and Christine Lennon, March 14; Jason Kwasna and Lenny Rempe, March 15; Maureen Karpolivsky and Theresa Curry, March 17; and Kevin Podlas, March 18. I hope everyone enjoys their special day!

As I write this I’m wishing this week goes fast. My daughter will be home from college March 6-15. I miss her so much while she’s away. Although Oneonta is only five hours away and she was home for a short weekend Feb. 14, it feels like I haven’t seen her in years.

Until next time, I hope you have a great two weeks. I hope to hear from you soon with any news you’d like to share with the community. Remember, please be safe while driving on our roads. Take care and see you around the neighborhood.

As I sit here on Sunday night not really watching the Super Bowl because my team, the Green Bay Packers, isn’t playing, I’m reading all about another winter storm that may hit our area tonight into Monday. I am not happy with this news because I hate winter and being cold, also because it means another few days of driving on icy, slick roads. I’m hoping this storm isn’t as bad as last week’s. (more…)

Happy New Year, friends and neighbors. Here we are in the beginning of 2015. When I left you last year I was just returning from picking up my daughter at college and now I’m preparing to bring her back again. Is it just me or is each year going by quicker and quicker? One minute my kids are babies and the next? One son turned 22 on Jan. 18, my other son will be 20 next month and my daughter is in her second semester of college. Where did the time go?  (more…)

So, friends and neighbors, this is it — the last column of 2014. What a year it’s been. I’ve seen my baby girl graduate from high school and then go off to college in Oneonta. I’ve seen families in the community suffer loss and devastation. I’ve seen joy and happiness at weddings and celebrations of life with the birth of babies. I’ve seen people who once had it all get knocked down and then rise again. (more…)
