Severe weather, ‘large hail’ possible for North Fork
The National Weather Service has issued a moderate risk of severe weather across much of the area today with small craft advisories in effect for surrounding waters.
A high rip current risk is in effect for the entire South Shore of Long Island.
The organization said a storm over the Great Lakes region has been tracking east and should arrive in the area late this afternoon and pass through the area this evening.
The threat of severe weather will increase this afternoon, with the possibility of “damaging winds” and “large hail” as thunderstorms develop and the service has not ruled out a possible isolated tornado, according to a zone forecast.
The storms are expected to move out of the area late this evening.
