Cops: Riverhead man accused of raping minor
A Riverhead man has been charged with felony rape, a criminal sex act and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, in connection with an alleged incident last month, authorities say.
Dani Ovidio Solorzan Garcia, 22, is being held in county jail on $100,000 bail after he was arrested at Riverhead Town police headquarters about 9:40 p.m. Monday, according to a town court clerk and Riverhead police reports.
Police said Mr. Garcia is accused of “engaging in sexual acts with a female who was less than 17 years old,” according to a news release. A court clerk said the incident occurred “on or about August 24;” no further details were released.
Mr. Garcia is due back in court on Friday.
