Jamesport hosts annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade; tribute paid to fallen hero

At the first St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Jamesport since NYPD Det. Brian Simonsen was killed in the line of duty, the New York City Police Department Emerald Society Pipe Band came to the fallen hero’s hometown to pay tribute.

The band stopped near the Jamesport Cemetery to play “Amazing Grace” in honor of the Jamesport native, who is buried there.

The parade, now in its sixth year and hosted by the East End Emerald Society, brought hundreds to Main Road to celebrate the holiday. Former Riverhead police chief Joe Grattan Sr. served as grand marshal.
