Ned Harroun
A true native son has passed Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019, at the age of 70.Ned Harroun of Southold spent his entire life on the East End. As a boy he loved the water and all her spoils. His school days were spent on the playground at Greenport School, as were his father’s before him.
He matured into manhood and worked as a tree man, an arborist. Ned was the owner of the first tree company on the East End. Island Tree Company stood alone until it didn’t. He became a certified arborist when accreditation first began, and remained a certified arborist. Ned had an intimate relationship with the green giants that grew and was deeply aware how to enhance nature. He had customers that spanned decades; they never lost his phone number. This tree man was really good at his profession. His expertise, God’s gift, will be missed.
Ned William Harroun is survived by his wife, Mary Anne Harroun; his daughters, Paula and Jessica Harroun; his grandchildren, Brooke and Ryan; and his sisters, Ellen Buchanan and Barbara Quinn. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Mark Harroun; together again.
Viewing will take place Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020, from 1 to 5 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold, where a memorial service will be held at 4 p.m.
He is a man to be celebrated.
