BLOG RECAP: Riverhead falls 16-13 on last-second field goal at West Islip

Coming off an impressive 42-0 Week 1 victory at home against West Babylon, the Riverhead Blue Waves return to the field this afternoon for their first road game against a talented West Islip team.

West Islip opened the season last week with a 28-16 victory over Walt Whitman. West Islip scored all its points in the first half.

The Lions came into the season as the preseason No. 4 seed in Division II. The Blue Waves were seeded No. 1.

The Blue Waves will have to contend with West Islip quarterback Sam Ilario, who in in his first varsity start last week scored three touchdowns (two rushing, one passing). Joel Aleman also ran for a touchdown.

Riverhead and West Islip did not meet last season as the Lions played in Division I.
