Cops: Riverhead man caught with stolen truck, credit cards

A Riverhead man was arrested late Saturday night for allegedly stealing a truck from the Handy Pantry parking lot in Mastic Beach and using the victim’s stolen credit cards in the Riverhead area, town police said.

image013Andrew Berezny, 30, was caught after the victim and her son drove to Riverhead to search for the truck after being alerted that her credit cards were being used here, police said.

After the vehicle, which was allegedly stolen earlier Saturday, was found parked at 7-Eleven shortly before 11 p.m., the victim’s son and a bystander detained Mr. Berezny until police arrived.

Mr. Berezny has been charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, and fifth degree petit larceny, a misdemeanor. Police said the investigation is continuing and additional charges are being considered.
