Cops: Riverhead man caught driving stolen truck

A Riverhead man was charged with criminal possession of stolen property after he was seen driving a stolen truck Sunday night.

An employee of Glenwood Village noticed one of the company’s trucks being operated on Middle Road in Riverhead around 10 p.m., according to Riverhead police.

The employee knew that the vehicle was unregistered and was supposed to be in a storage area at Glenwood, police said. The vehicle was followed and the operator was observed pulling into the driveway of 434 Middle Road.

Police were notified and an investigation determined that the vehicle had been stolen from Glenwood Village, according to a police report.

The operator of the vehicle was found to be Terry M. Smith, 55, of the same address, police said. Mr. Smith was charged with one count of criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree and held for arraignment.

During processing it was learned the Mr. Smith is currently on parole in New York State. Parole was notified of this incident and issued a parole warrant for Smith’s arrest, Riverhead police said.
