Ken Myers, a 1995 culinary arts graduate of Johnson & Wales University in Providence, was living in New York City and operating his own catering business in 2001 when 9/11 unfolded. The events of that day made him and his future wife, Jenny, decide to look out east and think about launching a business here.
With help from his father and Jenny, Ken launched Piping Plover Café in Southold’s Feather Hill complex in 2004.
Today, the business is going strong, offering cuisine created with a gourmet flourish using ingredients that are fresh, organic and, whenever possible, local. Ken does the cooking and says Jenny “runs the place.”
Piping Plover has won awards for its wraps, sushi and chili and was cited by Dan’s Papers as Best Luncheonette. Breakfast, lunch and dinner fare is offered, including eight homemade soups daily, and the restaurant seats 24, with outdoor dining in for 14. According to Ken, “high performance catering” and full event planning services are also available. And seniors get a discount at Piping Plover.
Now married two and a half years, Ken and Jenny Myers live in Greenport with three rescue cats and a dog.
