Jamesport man arrested for DWI after Cutchogue cemetery crash

A Jamesport man was arrested on a drunk driving charge Friday night, after he lost control of his vehicle, swerved through traffic and over several lawns before crashing into a cemetery wall, all in front of a Southold Town Police cruiser.

Police said Hilario Ramirez-Perez, 27, was driving a 1998 Mitsubishi 2-door sedan south on Depot Lane when he lost control about 6 p.m.  He then careened in and out of traffic, drove over several lawns and narrowly missed a head-on collision with a patrol car, according to authorities.

He then came to a stop after crashing into a wall at Sacred Heart Cemetery, located off Depot Lane. Volunteers with the Cutchogue Fire Department responded and transported Mr. Ramirez-Perez, who police said was drunk, to Eastern Long Island Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Mr. Ramirez-Perez was charged with DWI. He was taken to police headquarters and held overnight for an appearance in Southold Town Justice Court.

  • I would like to know if the car he was driving had NC plates.

  • He was also unlicensed and uninsured.

These incidents are happening nearly every day on Long Island, and yet news outlets that ought to be reporting the epidemic of drunk, unlicensed illegal immigrants on our roads simply look the other way and pretend it’s not happening.

A single illegal immigrant who was murdered by a bunch of white thugs was an ongoing story for years, but the victims of these drunk drivers, who number in the hundreds, and receive no compensation since illegals are uninsured, are dismissed as unimportant.
