Today in sports: SWR girls look to bounce back in volleyball

At the midway point of the League VII season, the Shoreham-Wading River girls volleyball team is sitting at .500 with a 3-3 record. Overall the Wildcats at 4-4.

The Wildcats begin the second half of the league season this afternoon on the road at Mattituck beginning at 4 p.m. In their first meeting of the season Sept. 12 the Wildcats won 3-1. Mattituck is also 3-3 in league.

It’ll be the second time of the season Mattituck coach Frank Massa coaches against his daughter, Maddie, who is a senior for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats opened the league season with three straight victories, but have since lost their last three, all against the current top teams in the league. Hampton Bays, Bayport-Blue Point and Mount Sinai all knocked off the Wildcats in three games.
