Cops hunt thief who swiped tip jar from Riverhead grocer

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and the Riverhead Police Department are seeking the public’s help in finding a man who swiped a tip jar containing about $80 from the counter of the Mexico Lindo store on East Main Street in Riverhead.

The incident took place about 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, when an unknown man entered the store on 713 East Main Street and took the tip jar from the service counter. He then left the store and fled in an unknown direction, according to police.

Police have released a surveillance camera photo of the suspect.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
