Driver drive-by sentenced to 1 1/3 to 4 years
A former Riverhead woman who was the driver in a February drive-by shooting of a Third Street home has been sentenced to 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office.
Jasmine Parsons, 20, now of Mastic, had pleaded guilty to first-degree reckless endangerment, a class “D” felony, before Judge William Condon in July for her role in the shooting. She was sentenced Tuesday in Suffolk County Criminal Court.
In addition to her sentence, Judge Condon issued an order of protection for one of the residents of the home, said DA spokesman Robert Clifford.
The DA’s office had requested Ms. Parsons be sentenced to 1 1/2 to 4 1/2 years, Mr. Clifford said, adding that her plea agreement was between the court and her attorneys, not with prosecutors.
The judge also recommended Ms. Parsons be put into the Willard drug rehabilitation program, a 90-day stint in an upstate treatment center that would immediately lead to probation upon completion. Assistant District Attorney Carl Borelli said in court that Ms. Parsons should not be considered for the program, Mr. Clifford said.
The four people accused in the Feb. 13 shooting were quickly caught when a police officer spotted them fleeing the scene.
Two of the other three people charged in the shooting, Eric Baldwin Jr. of Bellport and Jordan Harrell of Medford, pleaded guilty earlier this year.
The man accused of firing seven rounds into the occupied Third Street home, Jeffrey Despeines, 21, of Centereach, is still facing three felony charges in the incident.
