A two-time felon and a Flanders woman were caught driving in a stolen car in Aquebogue Monday night, the same day the vehicle had been reported missing from Southampton Town, authorities said.

Police were on the lookout for a black 1997 Toyota Corolla that was taken from a Southampton property Monday, Riverhead Town police said. A patrol officer spotted the car driving out of Milbrook Gables neighborhood in Riverhead about 10 p.m., and later pulled the car over on Main Road.

The car was confirmed to be the one reported stolen and the driver, 32-year-old Roshawn Childress of Patchogue, and the passenger, 31-year-old Louise Reeves of Flanders, were arrested and held overnight.

Both were charged with felony criminal possession of stolen property, police said.

Mr. Childress has been convicted twice before on felony charges, prosecutors said during his arraignment Tuesday morning in Riverhead Town court.

In 2001, he was convicted of attempted burglary and served five years in state prison, online inmate records show. One year after his release, Mr. Childress was again convicted of attempted burglary and served another year and six months in prison.

He pleaded not guilty and was held without bail due to his prior convictions. He is due back in court Friday.

Ms. Reeves, who did not have an attorney present, did not have any prior convictions and was held on $500 bail. She will return to court Wednesday to have a defense attorney assigned to her.
