Cops: Woman assaulted man near Riverhead railroad station

A Riverhead woman was arrested for assault after allegedly cutting a homeless man on his hand with a box cutter Tuesday in front of the railroad station on Railroad Avenue, Riverhead Town police said.

Sandra D. Moore, 45, was charged with second-degree assault, police said.

Police received a call of a disturbance at the bus stop on Railroad Avenue at 5:19 p.m. Tuesday. Police found the victim, a 44-year-old man, at Railroad Avenue and Cedar Street. The victim was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center with injuries that were not life threatening.

Riverhead detectives responded to the scene and arrested Ms. Moore. She was processed and held for arraignment this morning. Second-degree assault is a felony.
