One airlifted following head-on car crash on Route 105

Route 105 is closed in both directions south of Main Road after a head-on car crash occurred around 8:30 this morning.

According to Riverhead Police, one person was airlifted following the crash, which occurred south of Main Road. The driver of a Cadillac driving southbound on Route 105 allegedly crossed over the divide and struck the van, which was driving north, said Sgt. Jon Devereaux of the Riverhead Police Department.

The driver of the van was sent to Stony Brook University Hospital via ambulance, according to police on scene. They are both believed to have serious but not life threatening injuries.

Northbound traffic is closed between Flanders Road and Main Road. Southbound traffic is closed from Main Road to Riverside Drive. The road is expected to be re-opened around 12:30 p.m.

New York State Police and Riverhead Town police are currently investigating. No other information was immediately available.
