Cops: Threatening letter mailed to elementary school

Wading River Elementary School

Riverhead Town police are investigating an alleged threat made against a teacher at Wading River Elementary School.

Authorities were alerted to the threat last Thursday afternoon by Wading River Elementary School principal Louis Parrinello, who said an unsigned typed letter had been mailed to the school, according to a police report.

The letter reportedly referred to an elementary school teacher — whose identity was not disclosed by police — with an expletive. In a rhyme, the writer threatened to shoot the teacher and “throw her in a ditch,” police said.

Authorities said the letter and its accompanying envelope were placed into police custody. Detectives were notified of the incident and extra patrols will be made around school grounds.

“The police have this now,” Shoreham-Wading River Superintendent Steven Cohen said in an interview Tuesday. “They are investigating.”
