Joseph M. Stehle Jr.

Joseph M. Stehle Jr. of Yaphank died April 4 at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital. He was 86.

He was born Nov. 23, 1932, in New York City to Katherine (Kull) and Joseph Stehle.

Mr. Stehle was the beloved husband of Joyce (Engelbach) Stehle for 60 years. He was the father of Katherine Sarles (David), Elizabeth O’Neill (Robert), Paul and John (Jennifer).

Mr. Stehle served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955  and made a career as a stock manager for General Motors. He was a member of Astoria Masonic Lodge, was a Korean War veteran, a Yankee fan and an avid cook and gardener.

His family said they will miss his wit and counsel.

He is survived by his seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitors were received April 7 at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home. A funeral Mass was held April 8 at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead. Cremation was private.
