Former Baiting Hollow resident William Joseph Wulforst of Los Angeles died June 13. He was 73.
He was born May 10, 1946, to Margaret Ann (Heaney) and Harold Joseph Wulforst
Mr. Wulforst graduated from Mercy High School in Riverhead in 1964 with high honors and athletic awards and attended Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps at the rank of private first class E-2 and received an honorable discharge May 20, 1970.
Mr. Wulforst was employed as a farmer, basketball coach, driver, assistant manager and writer. Family members said he loved basketball and was a history buff, a student of theology and a world traveler.
He is survived by his siblings, Jack, of Calverton, Ellen Stone of Tilghman, Md., Sharon, of Nesconset, Paul, of Riverhead, and Cathy Church of Manorville; and six nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will take place Monday, June 24, from 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A Mass will take place Tuesday, June 25, at 10:45 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church followed by interment at St. John’s Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
