Mary Anthea (Ann) Mueller

Longtime Greenport resident Mary Anthea (Ann) Mueller passed away December 4, 2019, at San Simeon by the Sound in Greenport, N.Y. She was 92.
The daughter of Margaret (O’Connell) and John T. (Chips) Nicholson Sr., Mary Anthea was born May 31, 1927. in New York, N.Y.
Growing up in Forest Hills, Scarsdale and Rockville Centre, N.Y., she attended both St. Agnes Academy in Brentwood, N.Y., and Traphagen School for fashion design in New York. Mary Anthea used her fashion design skills as a promotional fashion model at Best & Company in New York.
In January 1949, Mary Anthea married her Rockville Centre sweetheart, Rudolph William (Bill) Mueller and moved to Greenport where they founded The Little Yankee Shop, a children’s apparel store, from 1949 to 1969. Mary Anthea applied her gift of style and design for an additional 17 years while working in the S.T. Preston and Son Art Gallery in Greenport.
After building their home in 1951 in Greenport, Mary Anthea raised her four boys and continued to happily offer her design talents to her many family and friends. She taught many how to play Rummikub and established her own community in Jupiter, Fla., for 10, years getting to live near her brother- and sister-in-law, Jack and Grace Mueller.
Mary Anthea is predeceased by her husband, Rudolph William (Bill) Mueller, in 1987 and her two sons William (Billy) Mueller in 1975 and Christopher (Chris) Mueller in 1969. She is survived by her sons Timothy Mueller (Lawrence Kotik) and Paul Mueller; along with her devoted daughter-in-law Peggy Pollard (wife of Billy Mueller); along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Geneva, Switzerland.
Mary Anthea always kept her sense of humor, positive outlook, love of a good party and resilience in the face of adversity, despite the challenges that confronted her along the way.
Mary Anthea was two months shy of her 10th anniversary as a resident of San Simeon where she established many personal relationships with both the staff and residents. The family is grateful to the entire staff for their expertise and kindness over the years.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Dec. 7, 2019, at St. Agnes R.C. Church, followed by internment at St. Agnes Cemetery in Greenport. Funeral arrangements were handled by Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport.
