Edward J. ‘Chops’ Gevinski

Edward J. Gevinski of South Jamesport, known as “Chops,” died Dec. 10 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. He was 84.He was born April 9, 1935, to Mary and Casmir Grzywinski in Greenport.
Mr. Gevinski graduated from Riverhead High School and worked as a carpenter and as owner of Ed’s Deli in Jamesport.
He was a past member of Jamesport Fire Department and loved sports, especially softball, golf and bowling.
Mr. Gevinski was predeceased by his wife, Joan, in 1992. He is survived by his longtime significant other, Dorothy Ruskowski; his siblings, Bernard, of South Jamesport, and sister, Lorraine Matlak of Florida; his children, Christopher and Michael, of South Jamesport, John, Anne Franzik and Edward Jr., of Connecticut, Peter and James, of Riverhead, Marie Troyan of East Moriches and Stephen, of Lloyd Harbor; 25 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitors will be received Friday, Dec. 13, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A service will take place at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead, followed by interment at Jamesport Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Jamesport Cemetery Association.
