Cops: Running bathtub adds up to $35K worth of damage
About $35,000 worth of water damage was reported at The Inn and Spa at East Wind in Wading River after a guest fell asleep early Thursday and left the bathtub water running, Riverhead police said.
A hotel guest reportedly left the water running in a second floor room when he fell asleep about 3 a.m., according to a report.
By the time the water was shut off at about 7 a.m., the overflow had caused damage to the ceilings and walls of three first-floor rooms and two second-floor rooms, police said.
The hotel’s laundry room and electrical room were also damaged, authorities said.
The total value of the damage is estimated at $35,000, police said. The guest, who acknowledged that his neglect caused the damage, was asked to leave the hotel following the incident, police said.
No charges were filed.
