Men’s Golf: SWR grads lead St. Joseph’s to conference championship
Two Shoreham-Wading River graduates helped lead the St. Joseph’s College (L.I.) men’s golf team to the 2015 Skyline Conference Championship — the program’s first since 2007.
The team earned an automatic qualification into the 2016 Division III Men’s Golf Championship in May.
John Melandro, a St. Joseph’s junior, earned first-team all-conference honors and Robbie Bray, a senior, earned second-team all-conference honors.
The Golden Eagles won the championship at Brynwood Gold and Country Club in Armonk on Oct. 19. The two-day event was played in near-freezing conditions with a mix of precipitation.
Melandro finished in fourth, shooting a total score of 155 for 15-over par. Bray finished eighth with a score of 164 for 24-over par.
“All of the cliches a coach can use for the courageous display of athleticism on the part of our team are certainly appropriate for their performances,” said St. Joseph’s coach George Cangero in a press release.
