Emily A. Whitney

Emily A. Whitney died May 6 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. She was 95.

She was born to Marie Flohn and Irving Schneider March 29, 1924, in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Ms. Whitney graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School. She made a career as a Riverhead High School administrative assistant for 25 years and managed the front desk at Riverhead Free Library for 28 years.

She was a member and past president of Riverhead Homemakers Club and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Ms. Whitney enjoyed sewing, knitting and dressing dolls for Operation Christmas Child, her family said.

She married Daniel Corwin April 16, 1955, in Valley Stream and later Norman Whitney on Dec. 5, 1970, in Hollis, N.Y.

Ms. Whitney was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Dorothy Jurgens; and both husbands. She is survived by her daughter, Marie Corwin of Chapel Hill, N.C.; her son, Donald (Ginger) Corwin of Kendall Park, N.J.; and her grandsons Nathan, Peter, Markell and Daniel.

Visitors will be received Thursday, May 9, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral Mass will take place Friday, May 10, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Aquebogue, followed by interment at Riverhead Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in memory of Emily to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
