Cops: Flanders man arrested on DWI charges following car crash

A 28-year-old Flanders man was arrested Saturday on drunken driving charges after he crashed his vehicle into a parked car, according to a Southampton Town police press release.

Erwin Velasquez-Nij was arrested at around 11:50 p.m. after police found him to be intoxicated at the unidentified scene of the accident, officials said.

No injuries were reported, police said.

During the investigation, police learned that Mr. Velasquez-Nij had a suspended license and an outstanding bench warrant issued by Southampton Town Justice Court for failure to pay a fine, officials said.

Mr.  Velasquez-Nij was charged with driving while intoxicated and first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, both felonies, police said.

He was held overnight for arraignment and his vehicle was impounded, officials said.
