Three hospitalized after Main Road crash

PAUL SQUIRE PHOTO | Police briefly closed Main Road in Jamesport Friday evening after three people were injured in a two-car crash.

Three people were hospitalized with non-serious injuries after two cars collided on Main Road in Jamesport Friday evening, authorities said.

A silver Honda Accord was turning left into a Jamesport shopping center on Main Road about 5 p.m. when it was struck by a silver Toyota Camry traveling east on Main Road, Riverhead police said.

The man and woman driving in the Accord were stretchered out of the vehicle and taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Riverhead ambulance volunteers.

The man driving the Camry was also taken to PBMC, volunteers said. The victim’s injuries are not considered serious, authorities said.

Jamesport Fire Department was called to the scene to clean up liquid spilled from the vehicles. While authorities initially thought heavy rescue might have been needed, the victims were able to be pulled from the cars without extraction tools, according to discussions over ambulance radio.

Main Road was closed for about half an hour in both directions from South Jamesport to Washington Avenues while the scene was investigated and cleared.
