Speonk man trying to avoid police charged with DWI

A Speonk man who was driving drunk Saturday evening tried to avoid a Southampton Town patrol car at the Riverside traffic circle by driving into a nearby parking lot, according to a New York State police report.

But the parking lot he drove into was the restricted back lot of the New York State police barracks, where he was quickly arrested.

Angel Jimenez-Mejia, 35, had turned into the rear parking area at the barracks on Riverliegh Avenue where troopers keep their patrol cars. The area is off-limits to the public.

He was caught by state police inside the lot and arrested at the scene, police said.

Mr. Jimenez-Mejia was charged with trespassing and driving while intoxicated. He was released with a future date in Southampton Town Justice Court, according to the report.
