Cops: Flanders man flees scene, charged with DWI

A 53-year-old Flanders man involved in a one-car accident was arrested for driving while intoxicated early Thursday morning, Southampton Town police said. 

Evan Sampson reportedly crashed his vehicle on Glider Avenue in Flanders about 1:30 a.m., police said. Police responded to the scene and determined Mr. Sampson was the driver of the vehicle. Police said Mr. Sampson was found to be intoxicated and he was charged with DWI.

Police also charged him with leaving the scene of an accident after failing to stay with the vehicle. He was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana along with several traffic violations.

Mr. Sampson was transported to police headquarters and held for arraignment.
