Cops: One person found dead in Hampton Bays vehicle fire

Southampton Town police are investigating a vehicle fire that left one person dead Saturday afternoon in Hampton Bays. 

Police found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames on the beach access to Peconic Bay at 107 North Road just past noon. Southampton and Hampton Bays Fire Departments responded to the scene and extinguished the fire before finding the victim in the vehicle.

The identity of the victim was not immediately released. Police said no criminality has been established at this point.

The Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad, Suffolk County Arson Squad, Suffolk County Police Crime Scene and the Suffolk County Medical Examiners office are all investigating.
