Cops: car passenger caught with 2.5 pounds of marijuana
A passenger in a car stopped for a traffic violation ended up being arrested Saturday with 2.5 pounds of marijuana, according to Southampton Town police.
Adelfri Calderon-Rojas, 24, of Central Islip, was a passenger in a car that was stopped for a traffic violation at 1:43 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Flanders Road and Flanders Boulevard in Flanders.
The officer then smelled marijuana coming from the car, and Mr. Calderon-Rojas admitted the marijuana was “solely his,” according to police. A subsequent search of the car turned up 2.5 pounds of marijuana, police said.
Mr. Calderon-Rojas was charged with second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a felony, and taken to police headquarters for processing.
The driver of the car, who was not identified by police, was issued traffic summonses and the car was impounded for future asset forfeiture because it was involved in a felony drug arrest, police said.
