Cops: Traffic stop leads to drug arrest in Riverside

A Riverside woman who was driving without a license is facing drug possession charges after a traffic stop in her home hamlet, Southampton Town police said. 

Tara Bennett, 41, was pulled over on Peconic Avenue shortly before 2:30 a.m., police said.

During the stop police found her to be in possession of crack cocaine. She was also driving with a license that was suspended following a prior DWI, police said.

She was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and two charges of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, police said.

Ms. Bennett was arrested at the scene, transported to police headquarters and released on an appearance ticket, police said.
