Beatrice Overton Meyer Terkelson

Former Riverhead resident Beatrice Overton Meyer Terkelson of Appomattox, Va., died Nov. 15 after a long illness. She was 88.
She was born in Greenport Sept. 14, 1922, to Frederick and Mary (Reeve) Meyer. She graduated from Riverhead High School and married Eugene Terkelson in 1942.
In addition to being a homemaker, Ms. Terkelson was employed by Singer Sewing Corp., A&P Grocery, Hazeltine and Jimmy’s Snack Bar in Riverhead. According to her family, she was active in the Women of the Moose and in making crafts for church bazaars and enjoyed reading, gardening, bingo and crocheting. Family members said “she once crocheted 54 children’s sweaters to be sent to orphans in Romania.”
Predeceased by her husband and her sister, Louise O’Neil, Ms. Terkelson is survived by her children, Mary Ellen L’Hommedieu of Concord, Va., Betty Lou Reynolds of Kent, Wash., Teri Cestaro of Appomattox, Va., and Randy, of New Paltz, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The family received visitors Nov. 16 at Robinson Funeral Home in Appomattox, where a celebration of her life was conducted the following day by Pastor Dave Kountz.
