Katherine Elinor Oswald

Katherine Elinor Oswald of Riverhead, formerly of Malverne and Rockville Centre, passed away on Friday, December 31, 2010. Beloved wife of the late Edwin Francis Oswald. Loving mother of Edwin Gerard, Stephen Gerard and John Gerard and adoring grandmother of Eddie, Nicholas, Melody and Alec. She will always be an inspiration and example to her devoted family for her love, warmth, strength, determination, understanding, wisdom and encouragement.

Kay (as her friends called her), a registered nurse, began her career in industrial nursing at Lever Brothers in Cambridge, Massachusetts. During her years serving the health care community, Kay held a wide range of positions with several companies including Bloomingdales, Doubleday Publishing, and as the Chief Nurse for the European American Bank in Uniondale. Growing up outside of Boston, she attended Mt. Auburn Hospital School of Nursing, and received her Bachelor’s degree in nursing from Boston College. Kay also studied the piano throughout her childhood, performed in recitals during that time, and shared her great love of music with her family throughout her life. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends and also very much celebrated.

Family will receive friends Thursday, Jan. 6, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Flinch & Bruns Funeral Home, Inc., 34 Hempstead Ave., Lynbrook. Solemn Requiem Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 7, 2011, at St. Agnes Cathedral, Rockville Centre. Interment St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale.
