Mildred E. Reiter

Mildred E. Reiter died Jan. 30 at the Riverhead Care Center. She was 87.

Born Feb. 12, 1923, in Glendale, Queens, to Frederick and Emma (Mathis) Strobel, she graduated in 1941 from Jamaica High School. In 1945, she married Walter Flanagan, who died in 1959.

She married Frederick Reiter in 1964, and the couple enjoyed their membership in the Riverhead Moose Lodge and spending time on their boat, the Milfred.

Ms. Reiter, known as Millie, worked for many years in the Suffolk County Clerk’s office, retiring as a senior clerk-typist. She was a member of the Golden Circle, a women’s group at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead.

In addition to Mr. Flanagan, she was predeceased by her son Thomas Flanagan in 1958, Mr. Reiter in 1973 and her stepson Frederick (“Billy”) Reiter in 1994. She is survived by stepsons Allen Reiter of Michigan and Daniel Reiter of Florida, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Cremation was private, in accordance with Ms. Reiter’s wishes. Memorial donations may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
