Lifelong Riverhead resident Nettie Gayda died May 8 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. She was 89.
She was born Jan. 20, 1923, in Riverhead to Elizabeth and John Rykaczewski and was a homemaker for most of her adult life.
Family members said she enjoyed life to the fullest and loved animals, gardening, cooking and spending time with her family.
Predeceased by her husband, George, in 1984, Ms. Gayda is survived by her daughters, Betty Densieski of Jamesport and Kathy, and her husband, Peter Guardino, of Aquebogue; her son, Dennis, of North Carolina; grandchildren Renee and Robert; and two great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours are set for Friday, May 11, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A service will be held Saturday, May 12, at 10:45 a.m. at St. Isidore R.C. Church, Riverhead. Interment will be at St. John’s Cemetery, also in Riverhead.
