Christopher E. Qualls of Mattituck died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. He was 59 years old.
He was born in the Bronx on Nov. 8, 1952, to Marvin and Lillian (Jernick) Qualls. After graduating from Mattituck High School, he enjoyed a career at the former Hazeltine in Riverhead. He then worked until retirement as a postal clerk at the Greenport post office. More recently, he was associated with Radio Shack in Mattituck.
Chris found enjoyment in golfing, horse racing, the San Francisco 49ers and collecting lighthouses. Family members said the gentle giant was a great father.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (née Juczak); his sons, JT and Brandon Sjursen, both of Mattituck, and Eric Sjursen of Peconic; and his sisters, Rose Francavilla of Massapequa and Jean Nevin of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
The family received friends Sunday, Oct. 14, at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck, where prayer services were conducted by Sister Julia Grey, O.P.
