Robert J. Schneider

Robert J. Schneider of Riverhead died March 29 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was 75 years old.

He was born July 19, 1937, in Rockville Centre to Stephen and Grace (Atherton) Schneider. He married Barbara Hajek on April 3, 1987, in Vermont and worked as a union plumber with Local 200.

He was well known for his wonderful sense of humor. A member of the Flanders Men’s Club, he enjoyed fishing, boating, camping and NASCAR.

He is survived by his wife; his sons, Stephen and Robert Jr. (Cynthia); his daughters, Kathleen (Donald) Endres and Diane (Phillip) Merritt; his stepdaughters, Susan Edwards, Mary Forbes and Diane (Daniel) Coppola; his brother, David Schneider; his sister Elizabeth Fedorowicz; his grandchildren, Isabelle, Stephen Jr. and Hannah Schneider, Daniel Endres, and Samantha and Devon Merritt; his step-grandchildren, Melissa, Laurie and Charles (Stephanie) Edwards; his step-great-grandchildren, Emily and Charles Edwards; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Kathleen Tuthill.

Visiting hours were held April 1 and will continue Tuesday, April 2, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, at the funeral home, followed by interment at St. John’s Cemetery in Riverhead.
