Marguerite McTiernan

Former Riverhead resident Marguerite McTiernan died Oct. 12 in Richmond, Va. She was 82 years old.

She was born March 2, 1931, in Queens to Robert and Marguerite (Larkin) Pope. Most recently, she worked as a claims adjuster for Blue Cross Blue Shield in New York City.

Ms. McTiernan was predeceased by her husband, Theodore; a son, Robert, in 1995; and a brother, William Pope, in 2013. She is survived by two sons, Joseph, of Florida, and Ted, of Maryland; two daughters, Kathleen Osterhaus of Arkansas and Marguerite, of Virginia; her brother Thomas Pope of Bethpage; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 17, at 9:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead, Father Larry Duncklee officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
