A trip home from the beach was derailed for a driver and his five passengers when a front tire blew out and the driver lost control of his minivan and crashed into a telephone pole on Flanders Road Sunday afternoon, Southampton Town police said.

The mini-van was headed north when the single vehicle accident occurred shortly before 5 p.m., police at the scene said.

One passenger suffered head lacerations and was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital in East Patchogue. Another passenger, who was less seriously injured, was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, police said.

The accident caused downed wires along the east side of the road, though the road remained open in both directions as of 5:20 p.m.

No criminal charges are anticipated in the incident.
