Rose R. Zahler

Rose (Rosenfeld) Zahler of Riverhead died May 18 at her home.

She was born in Russia and moved to the United States at the age of 3 with her family.

She lived in New Jersey before moving to Riverhead with her husband, Mort Zahler, in the 1960s. The Zahlers built what is now Meeting House Creek Marina in Aquebogue and the former post office on Main Road in Aquebogue.

Ms. Zahler was active in and served as president of the Eastern Long Island chapter of Haddassah, now called the Hamptons-Sara Chapter.

According to her family, she was known and loved by many for her love of living large and never missed a party. “She lived her life her way with no regrets,” family members said.

She is survived by her daughter, Penny Hoffman of Riverhead.

Visiting hours and a memorial service were held May 21 at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead.

Memorial donations may be sent to Haddassah, 74 Hauppauge Road, Room 44, Commack, NY 11725.
