Joseph Gabriel Reilly

Joseph Gabriel Reilly of Wading River died July 23 at his home. He was 81.

He was born Jan. 5, 1929, in New York City to William and Bridget (Corrigan) Reilly. He was raised in Baldwin, where he attended school, and later joined the U.S. Navy, serving in both World War II and the Korean War.

Mr. Reilly married Mary Morris in Mineola on Aug. 21, 1954. He worked as a laborer and shop steward for Local No. 66 in Melville for 50 years, and was the union shop steward during construction of the Shoreham nuclear power plant.

According to his family, “He loved his kids and grandkids” and that was his major hobby.

Predeceased by his wife in 2008, Mr. Reilly is survived by his children, Joseph Jr., Theresa, Patricia, Maureen, Kathleen and Kevin; his siblings Philomena and Gerald; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

The family received visitors July 26 at O.B. Davis Funeral Home in Miller Place. Funeral services were held July 27 at St. Mark R.C. Church in Shoreham. Interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery.
