Charles M. Mickaliger Sr.

Longtime Riverhead resident Charles M. Mickaliger Sr. died Feb. 14 at Southampton Hospital. He was 93.

Born April 19, 1917, in Riverhead, to Charles and Kathryn (Trianoska) Mickaliger, he was a graduate of Riverhead High School.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945 and received a Bronze Star for his service in the South Pacific in World War II. He married Anna Klodaski on Sept. 10, 1950.

Mr. Mickaliger was employed throughout his working life as a concrete mixer with the Redi Mix company. He was a member of Riverhead Fire Department, the East End Surf Club, St. Isidore’s Parents Club, and the Mercy High School Booster Club. According to his family, he was a Mets fan and also enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his family.

Mr. Mickaliger is survived by his wife; his son, Charles Jr.; brothers Edward and John, both of Riverhead, Bennie, of Florida, and Stanley, of Mattituck; and two granddaughters. He was predeceased by his brothers Lewis, Alex, Martin and Fr. George and a sister, Marian McCaffery,

Visiting hours were held Feb. 15 at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral Mass was held Feb. 16 at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead. Interment followed at the church cemetery.
