Longtime Aquebogue resident Helen A. Polak died Aug. 13 at her home following a long illness. She was 69.
She was born in Greenport on Dec. 11, 1941, to Joseph and Sophie (Troyan) Cherepowich, and was a high school graduate. She married William J. Polak Jr. in January 1963 in Riverhead, and they raised their children in Aquebogue. She was a homemaker for most of her adult life, and enjoyed cooking, doing crafts and spending time with her family, they said.
Predeceased by her husband, Ms. Polak is survived by her sons, William III, Kevin and Gregory, all of Riverhead, and six grandchildren.
Visiting hours took place Aug. 15 at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A service was held Aug. 16 at St. Isidore R. C. Church, also in Riverhead, followed by interment at the church cemetery.
