Philip J. Hanlon

Philip J. Hanlon of Riverhead died Jan. 5, 2013, at Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was 86 years old.

Born Nov. 17, 1926, in Astoria, Queens, to Timothy and Kathleen Hanlon, he served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946, then worked for American Airlines as a field mechanic.

He loved watching football and was an avid New York Giants fan, family members said. He also enjoyed bowling and activities with the Over 50s Club in Wading River.

He is survived by his wife, Marie (née Hawkins), of Riverhead; his daughter, Maura Grossi; his sons, Philip, James and Brian; and two grandchildren.

Visiting hours will take place Wednesday, Jan. 9, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A service will be held at the funeral home Thursday, Jan. 10, at 10 a.m., Father Robert Kuznik officiating. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
