Winifred A. Kess

Winifred A. Kess of Aquebogue died June 4 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. She was 53 years old.

Born Oct. 21, 1959, in Riverhead to John and Beverly (Bennett) McKavish, Ms. Kess was a high school graduate who worked for Verizon Operator Services in Riverhead. According to family, she enjoyed spending time with her children and fishing, and loved to laugh.

Predeceased by her father and her sister Carol Porter in 2013, she is survived by her mother; her husband, Philip A.; her sons, Philip J., of Aquebogue, and Joseph, of Riverhead; her daughters, Andrea, of Cutchogue, and Marissa, of Riverhead; her sisters Cathy Porter of Riverhead, Beverly Kuhmen of Arizona and Evelyn Conklin of Mattituck; her brothers, John and Billy McKavish of Riverhead; and two grandchildren.

The family received visitors June 7 at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service took place June 8 at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, also in Riverhead. Cremation was private.
