Southampton Blotter: Man caught driving without court-ordered interlock device

Southampton Town police arrested a Manorville man caught driving without an interlock device in Northampton Sunday.

Maxwell Rothaus, 35, was stopped around 10:54 a.m. near Speonk-Riverhead Road and told an officer that he has problems with his license from a prior DWI charge, police said. 

He was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and circumventing a court-ordered interlock device, both misdemeanors.

• A Flushing man was arrested for driving with a suspended driver’s license in Northampton last Wednesday.

Tomas Axilote, 39, was stopped near Westhampton-Riverhead Road around 11:15 a.m. when an officer found his license was suspended. He was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor.

• Police arrested a 25-year-old Mastic man for driving with a suspended license in Northampton last Tuesday.

At approximately 8:20 p.m., Devante Perry was stopped for a traffic infraction near Lake Avenue when an officer found his New York State license had been suspended, police said. 

Mr. Perry was charged with several violations and a misdemeanor charge of third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

• A 50-year old man reported to Southampton Town police last Monday that his bicycle was stolen by an unknown male.

While sitting at a bus stop in front of the Flanders Community Center, the caller said a suspect jumped on his bicycle while he had his back turned and rode away around 8 p.m., police said.

He ran after him, but could not keep up, officials said.

According to a police report, the bicycle, valued at $200, is black and purple and has a flashlight on the handlebars.

• A bicycle was also stolen from the Shell gas station in Riverside last Tuesday.

According to Southampton Town police, a Riverhead man parked his bicycle at the gas station around 9:35 a.m. and went inside to make a purchase without locking it up.

Video shows a black male wearing a white T-shirt, jeans and a white do-rag taking the bicycle and heading toward the traffic circle, police said, but a search of the area did not lead to an arrest. An investigation is ongoing.

• Southampton Town police arrested a Riverhead man on felony DWI charges in Hampton Bays on Labor Day.

Nicoloas Sac-Pelico, 23, was stopped near Squires Lane in Hampton Bays around 5:44 p.m. for failing to stop at a stop sign, police said.

He was found to be intoxicated and was transported to headquarters for processing, police said.

He faces a Class E felony charge of driving while intoxicated due to a prior DWI conviction, according to a police report.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
